Danestone

Danestone is a suburb located on the northern edge of Aberdeen,  next to the larger suburb of Bridge of Don. It sits on the banks of the River Don and is surrounded by green spaces and a variety of countryside environments, located just 12 minutes from the centre of Aberdeen. It has popular appeal with families and retirees from offering a large amount of housing and great transport links into Bridge of Don, Stoneywood, Dyce, Aberdeen and beyond. Danestone is also close to Aberdeen International Airport, making it a suitable choice for frequent travellers. 

History of Danestone
There has been evidence of habitation of the Danestone area since the 19^th Century, where ordinance maps show a farm located in the area. The area continues to have large swathes of rural land but has slowly grown into a suburb beside Bridge of Don. As Bridge of Don and Aberdeen expanded, it became a prime area for development, and Danestone Primary School and various different types of housing were built in the 1980s. The area has continued to expand since in line with its growing population.

• Murcar Links Golf Club
  Danestone is close to Murcar Links Golf Club, an 18 hole, par 71 course located close to Bridge of Don. The Golf Club is one of the top 100 golf clubs in the UK and Ireland, and is also one of the most celebrated courses in Scotland according to the Scottish Golf Union.
• Persley Walled Garden
  The Persley Walled Garden is a beautifully restored Victorian garden that once served as the garden for Woodside House. Situated in a tranquil setting near the River Don, the garden was acquired and revitalized by Aberdeen City Council in 1997 to commemorate Workers' Memorial Day, with a granite obelisk erected in 1998 as a lasting tribute to those who have lost their lives in the workplace.  Compact yet picturesque, the garden is roughly the size of a football pitch and provides a serene spot for reflection and leisure.  It also serves as the starting point for a delightful nature trail along the River Don, inviting visitors to explore the natural beauty of the area.
• Stewart Park
  Located to the north of Aberdeen, close to the A92 through Danestone, Stewart Park is a 5-acre park with tennis courts, cricket and football pitch, as well as a playground for children. The park is also home to whale jaw bone arches. These were presented to the park by an arctic whaler in 1903, making an interesting feature for visitors.
• Donmouth Local Nature Reserve
  Donmouth Local Nature Reserve is a beach reserve known for its variety of wildlife. The reserve is part of a picturesque river and sea landscape where the River Don meets the North Sea. The reserve is home to both seals and waterfowl which can be spotted easily at different points of the year. There are also a variety of walks and paths that lead up towards the Bridge of Don and other areas.
• Cruickshank Botanic Garden
  Cruickshank Botanic Garden is a serene botanical garden located on the campus of the University of Aberdeen. Established in 1898, it spans around 11 acres and offers a rich diversity of plant species, including native Scottish flora and plants from around the world. The garden features themed areas such as a rock garden, water garden, and woodland sections, making it a good option for family trips and those looking for a break.
